Response Paper

The story called Lift Up Your Voice in Why Write I thought was very interesting to me on what they said about showing voice in writing. I agree with the author I believe there is voice in are writing and we need to find are voice in writing. In my writing I know I haven’t been the best at having my voice heard in my writing. I just never really knew how to write and I knew if I wrote how I talked it would sound weird. I like in the article how is said that we can hear the voice and know who it is by reading a conference talk and find out who it is and how our writing needs to flow like that. I also like the story about U2 and how we need to be able to recognize are voice in are writing. The evidence of how to write in the article is what the students are saying in the article that we need are voice to be heard. I like in the article how it said “But the problem is that I knew what Walcott was a poet in a million; he had won the Nobel Prize for literature. The Nobel Freaking prize!” I like that line in the book because it showed voice. I also like the quote writing without voice is wooden or dead because it lacks sounds, rhythm, energy, and individuality.” This applies in studies in class right now because we need to show voice in are writing that we write to make the writing seem more alive. The text help me understand how to put voice in writing better, so I can write better papers.

  1. I also liked that piece, and one thing that I thought was interesting was in class when Mrs. Elliot was talking about our writing having voice. I remember she said that writing can be like music. That sometimes when you listen to the radio and you hear a new song that you don't know but we can still pick out who the artist is by the sound of their voice. I never really thought of writing like that. It makes since that our writing should sound like ourselves. We are not fancy publishers we are student and therefore we should look at writing not as a big novel we have to write but more as a journal activity with our own voice.

  2. Yeah, I agree voice is wayyy important. College text books have no voice, and that is why I despise them ha. If you've read any really good books, the voice is always amazing. It draws you into the story and you just feel like you're a by stander watching everything like a movie. H Pot (Harry Potter) is the number one example of that. LOVE those books just because every time I read them, I fall into the story. The reason they are so entertaining is definitely because of the voice that the author uses. It's amazing.

  3. I feel you Trent I SUCK at finding my voice in my writing. I totally agree with what you talk about with the feeling like what your write sounds weird when you have to follow some strict outline format thing. That makes me despise peer reviewing, having others critique my work when I know it’s already bad. But on the other hand when we get a creative assignment or something and we get to come up with pretty much everything I find it much easier. I can just right down my own thoughts in how I would say and describe things. And botta boom botta bang I’m done with my paper. Its like it was almost bare able… almost
